Tough, tough game against Swansea City last night. I like them a lot, they're a great team; and this past week has shown to th e world just what a good, tough side they are becoming. First, they came back from the dead to draw 2-2 with Arsenal in the FA Cup Third Round last week, then in mid-week they earned a shocking 2-0 away win against Chelsea in the Capital One Cup Semi-final First Leg, and now a league point at high-flying Goodison. Michael Laudrup said it best: 'It's been more than a good week for us.'
Vicente del Bosque was in the Goodison crowd to watch the four Spaniards in the Swansea team - Michu, Chico Flores, Pablo Hernandez and Angel Rangel. They could have b een fired up as they played well and contributed to an overall determined, rugged Swansea performance. That's the thing about this season's Swansea - they are still playing that fluid, passing game of theirs, but they're also becoming very tough to beat, home or away.
Their centre-back pairing of Chico Flores and skipper Ashley Williams is proving outstanding, and with Leon Britton and Jonathan De Guzman in the middle, Hernandez and Wayne Routledge on the wings and Nathan Dyer and Michu upfront, they are solid in all departments. Quite unique to the footballing world is that - they're becoming a beautiful side to watch both offensively and defensively. Usually, I won't be delighted with a 0-0 draw at Goodison, but on this occasion, I was. Swansea nearly scored through a fine Michu chip that Tim Howard just managed to tip onto the bar. Everton had chances too, through Jelavic, Fellaini and Osman; but all in all, it was a good, tight game between two teams I'm really enjoying to watch this season.
