It's funny a life in football sometimes. Following the latest installment of the 'Sir Alex Ferguson Onslaught', it looks like the latest victim is none other than 'Once A Blue, Always A Blue' man Wayne Rooney himself. The writing was on the freakin' wall the moment Ferguson decided to omit him from the starting line-up of the Real Madrid game. He must be mad to do it. But he isn't mad. Meaning Rooney is out.
It's funny how just 2 months ago, Rooney was lorded as the dynamite striker of Manchester United. A player who can do no wrong, dominating games, toast of the town, all that shit. Suddenly, it looks like he's being shipped out with nowhere to go. Robin van Persie has deservedly established himself as the strike de force at United, so suddenly Rooney seems dispensable; also bearing in mind his stubborn, fiery attitude and caustic relationship with the gaffer. United are also reportedly on the hunt for Polish hitman Robert Lewandowski, a savvy, efficient striker from Borussia Dortmund. What does that mean for Rooney? Possibly a path to the exit door.
Yes, we've seen it all before. I can remember the moments I was shocked by the Ferguson onslaughts. David Beckham - out to Real Madrid. Jaap Stam, at that time the best defender in the world in my book - out to God-knows-where. Flying Russian winger Andrei Kanchelskis - out to Everton (that one I can live with). Cristiano Ronaldo - out to Real Madrid. Paul Ince - out to Liverpool. Mark Hughes - out to Chelsea. The list goes on...
But with the transfer fee and his potential wages, who can take Rooney? Barcelona or Real Madrid? Unlikely bearing in mind their huge wage quotients. Juventus or Bayern Munich? Wage caps should also be near the ceiling. Manchester City? Possible but major backlash looming from United fans (and maybe City's ones too). Chelsea? Major wage crunch lah. Paris Saint-Germain? Possible but understand their wage structure is kinda distorted thanks to this highlight-film player by the name of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. A hot man with nowhere to go? Who would have thought it.
