I have finished my latest book - not surprisingly, a football-related book from Mario Balotelli; enticingly titled 'The Secret Diary of Mario Balotelli' by author Bruno Vincent. When I first got the book, I was not sure if it would be maddeningly funny or disappointingly lucklustre. I mean, you can never tell about these diary books. They could turn out to be anything. Thankfully, it was more the former than latter.
The author has skilfully crafted a diary of his personal happenings as seen in the eyes of Monsieur Balotelli, as if it is the real diary of the AC Milan striker himself (though it is not). It spans the convoluted spectrum of crazy happenings and madcap antics from the sublime Italian, with episodes of fireworks being set off in his toilet (true), harrowing escapades with former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi (untrue) and him tying a string of all his towels round his huge house, just to see how long the string could form (who knows??).
All in all, this book delivers what is expected - a tasty insight into the life of Balotelli (and his then-girlfriend Raffaela), the trials and tribulations experienced by his unlucky agent (and probably his manager in real life as well) and the weird and wonderful thoughts and happenings surrounding the life of this never-boring Italian.
