Interesting read in The Straits Times today about Oprah Winfrey's Oscar-like performance in the upcoming show 'The Butler'. Interesting how she can overshadow a room-ful of superstars at the press conference such as Terrence Howard, Forest Whitaker, Lee Daniels, Lenny Kravitz and Mariah Carey. It's probably that her famed aura from her legendary talk-show and her media-savviness served her well. Interesting that she can start telling Lenny Kravitz what to say and all that.... quite cool. And considering she doesn't do many movies in her career, to put up a solid performance like that is all the more noteworthy.
Can't quite believe that her talk show only lasted for 15 years, until 2011. It seemed like it lasted forever.... I remember when I was a young child and it seemed like it was all the rage then... it seemed ubiquitous if you know what I mean.... you couldn't escape a TV without it being screened on..... it seemed to like go on for 5000 years.....
But the message she brought across in this interview was very important. All blacks should be respected just as much as any other human being... in fact, we should not even be talking about blacks separately at all as they are one and equal with every other human being on this planet..... we are all the same. As Oprah alluded to in the interview, they should never have to put on one face in front of the blacks, and another one in front of the whites. Basically, they should never be afraid to just be themselves. At the end of the day, it's all about love and respect.
