Banana Split

So I was sampling some old Bananarama songs for some reason and I discovered there's actually a lot more to them than I had bothered to find out back when they were in their pomp in the '80s. Amazingly, before today I had a total of 0 songs from them in my iPod. That's ridiculous rite? But it shows it's never too late for something yeah.

To be frank, I had always thought them a bit cheap-skatish (u know what I mean), a bit fluffy and just plain not that good. Even their songs never really attracted me too much. But I guez I was wrong becoz I'm now discovering just what they're about.

And I must say they were really in their element last time... they really embodied that young, vibrant, infectious energy in their songs and demeanour. All of them look good, but after some serious analysis, I must say the prettiest one would be Siobhan Fahey, the one who left at the peak of their fame sometime in 1988. She later miraculously went on to form Shakespear's Sister, when she took on an image and persona that couldn't be more extreme in contrast from her previous one in Bananarama: vampish and vixen-like rather than sweet and wholesome. Must say she looks good in both personas tough.

Marcella Detroit would join up with her of course; and they produced that mega hit and awesome video 'Stay'. Fahey would also marry Dave Stewart of Eurythmics but later would get divorced. And all this while I really never knew that Shakespear's Sister was actually made up of an ex-member of Bananarama. LOL. And Detroit went on to record one of my all-time favs: the inspirational 'I Believe'.
