The Impossible

I watched the movie 'The Impossible' recently on Netflix and thought it was a pretty good film. It talks about the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami that wrecked havoc; tracing the true story of a family who faced it unexpectedly when they went for a Christmas vacation at a resort in Thailand.

There are several tear-jerkers and gut-wrenching scenes; and in the end the movie talks about the power of family; how mother and child would do anything for one another; about not giving up hope even when faced with the direst of circumstances; as seen in the scene when the family; separated seeming with no chance of finding one another; somehow manage to be reunited just through the sheer persistence of the family members. It is about not taking your family and loved ones for granted; and treasuring them. It is also about strangers helping one another in the time of need; that when faced with a situation; the human is there to help one another; that life is indeed about helping one another; as witnessed by that gloriously helpful man who not only lent Ewan McGregor his handphone (when battery going low) and even accompanying him on his search for the family.

The movie is powered by strong Oscar-worthy performances from McGregor, Naomi Watts and a young Tom Holland (Spider-man); and the gritty, realistic scenes help paint a vivid and real portrait of the circumstances and events surrounding this tsunami. A recommended film to watch...
