The Space Between

It was Friday date nite tonight and we watched the brand-new movie 'Ad Astra' at GV Grand. It was a pretty good movie... a space science-fiction show starring Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones, among others. What I liked about the show was its unique space imagery and realistic depiction of the 'solar system' out there... it was as realistic a depiction of space travel that you would want...

The show talks about Major Brad Pitt, a solid astronaut who is tasked to journey out to space to check out his father's 'Lima Project'; a search for intelligent life out in space; but which is causing cosmic surges that threatens human life itself... his father is a legend in the astronautic world, Clifford McBride. In the end, his father is so consumed by the mission that he refuses to leave space... leaving a sad Brad Pitt to return home alone... but the interesting part of the show is that the data seems to point that humans are indeed the only intelligent form in the universe... and he starts to re-connect with the humans back home; such as his wife Liv Tyler.

The show is backed by a strong performance from Pitt... who looks refreshingly young and vibrant in this show... and typically strong performances from Tommy Lee Jones and Donald Sutherland. As I mentioned, the realistic space-depiction, coupled with interesting plot diversions such as pirate attacks and 'space baboons' allied with a smooth melancholy and 'tension-filled' atmosphere... make this a unique and satisfying show.
