Thought it was quite interesting how Raheem Sterling was 'banned' from the England squad for the recent Euro 2020 Qualifier against Montenegro after some 'canteen bust-up' with Joseph Gomez... maybe the first time such a thing has happened in professional football. Could this be a classic case of Club Rivalry spilling into the international fold?
Apparently, the Bad Blood between them had continued from the recent Liverpool v Manchester City EPL block-buster just days ago; when the two clashed in a rather bad-tempered affair. You could sense from that incident that Sterling was really angry; as the two almost seemed to come to blows. It could be the way Liverpool were winning the match 3-1... and perhaps Man City was not used to handling that kind of scenario...
Anyways, u got to hand it to Sterling for standing up to a much-bigger opponent... Joe Gomez is a central defender at 6'1". I do like him as both a player and person... he has improved so much since his time at Liverpool... he is now a clinical finisher and one of the form players in the world right now... u can just see the impact Josep Guardiola's coaching has had on him.
Anyways; it is good that all seems to be under the carpet as both seem to have reconciled and Sterling even spoke up in support of Gomez after the latter was booed upon making his sub appearance against Montenegro. England are currently doing well under Gareth Southgate; and keeping it 'in the family' will be vital to their cause; as they chase Euro 2020 glory.
