So in the space of a matter of hours, two sensational decisions that have shocked the football world no end... Mauricio Pochettino was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur; and lo and behold; who else but Jose Mourinho has now replaced him. I do feel the sacking of Pochettino was rather rash; I mean this is a proven manager whom many clubs actually want... but thinking about it; this Spurs side; destined for greatness just last season; have been really woeful in this campaign. They looked tired at the latter part of the last campaign; which was not a good sign; and this season has been even worse. They have looked rather lethargic; short of inspiration and motivation. Something had to give I guess... with Spurs now in an unrecognisable 14th place... way off from the Champions League places.
Let's get this straight: I think Mourinho is the greatest manager around. Any manager that can win the Champions League with Porto is the greatest manager. Period. He is so smart tactically; so astute with his players; so motivational that he simply gets the job done. Whether a slide-down-the-knees touchline celebration at Old Trafford (something that Fergie 'fondly remembers' of coz); a sharp-eyed, wildly-flamboyant punch-the-air rant at the referees; or a never-to-be-forgotten, Devils-may-care (no pun intended) scowl at the press interview; there is never a dull moment with this guy. And that's what makes him so Special; that charisma, confidence and sure-footedness attitude about him.
I still remember the day he sauntered into Stamford Bridge years ago and proudly proclaimed himself 'The Special One'... somehow; fresh from his Porto exploits, I believed him... and it turned out to be exactly that as Chelsea went on a rampaging path of glory. If I was a Spurs fan I'd be jumping out of the window right now. Getting him as manager is like striking first prize in the lottery. And wat a first game to start; a London derby between West Ham and Tottenham takes place in the early kick-off this Sat... now we can't wait can we...
