The Los Angeles Clippers were fresh off a statement win over their long-time nemesis the Lakers on Christmas Day; and for the first quarter against the Utah Jazz; they looked to be carrying right on; with a stellar first quarter that ticked all the right boxes. Behind the continued hustle play of Patrick Beverley and a Player-Of-The-Game performance from Croatian center Ivica Zubac; the Clippers looked confident as they searched for another rousing win against a top Western Conference opponent.
However, the Jazz stayed with it; and slowly but surely; their high-post motion offense started bringing about a succession of good shots; further energised by their stellar three-point shooting; particularly from Joe Ingles and Donovan Mitchell. And as this Western shootout went towards its inexorable climax; it was the visiting Jazz who showed greater composure; with Mitchell coming up big with two clutch shots to seal an excellent road win for Quinn Snyder's men.
