This was not a particularly spectacular Manchester City performance; however, they did just about enough to overcome a resilient Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 in the FA Cup 5th Round tie at Hillsborough. City were particularly lacklustre in the first half; enjoying loads of possession but unable to create anything particularly penetrating to trouble the Wednesday defence.
Wednesday 'keeper Joe Wildsmith; making his first appearance of the season; had an inspired outing between the sticks; pulling off remarkable saves to time and again deny the City faithful. Unfortunately, his one blunder proved the telling point; after Sergio Aguero's left-foot shot on the turn-around proved too hot to handle.
In truth; the second half was a much better affair for the visitors; with Guardiola's maniacal gesticulations on the touch-line somehow seeming to take effect. Riyad Mahrez, in brilliant form recently; was again hugely influential down the right flank; and was Man-Of-The-Match for me. In the end, City endured a rather persevering night; and their quest for the domestic quadruple is still well and truly on.
