Bruce Springsteen's highly-touted autobiography 'Born To Run' certainly lives up to the hype. It is one of the best autobiographies I have ever read: detailed; honest and deeply philosophical even. With its unique style; consisting of many short chapters and Springsteen's inimitable poetic style of writing; it is a thoroughly immersive read; with every page dripping with passion and purpose.
I must say I knew almost nothing about the man before I started reading; it was around the year 1984 when I first started listening to music that I first heard about this guy Bruce Springsteen and his global hit 'Born In The USA'; he was already in 'veteran status' then; with this nickname 'The Boss'; but there was always something unique, powerful & rebellious that drew me to him.
After reading the book, I now know everything about him. It is a long, detailed tome that talks all about him; from his early humble beginnings through to stardom and even life after; about his deeply varied life; his family; his personal principles & philosophies and the E Street Band. Heck I even discovered that song is actually 'Dancing In The Dark' (lol) and watched the video for 'Brilliant Disguise'. No doubt one of the outstanding books of the year.
