Manchester United put up a good performance to upset Manchester City 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium in this Carabao Cup semi-final 2nd leg. However, it was just not enough thanks to City's 3-1 win at Old Trafford in the first leg.
United played well in this one; controlling large parts of possession to almost out-play Man City at their own game. Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic scored the only goal of the game with a clinical left-foot strike off the post after some slack City defending from a Fred free-kick. However, Matic was unfortunately sent off midway through the second half; after a rather rash tug-back on a breaking Bernardo Silva to get his second yellow and red.
City were stunned for certain parts of the game and their usual possession game was not at its most fluid. In the end; they would be glad to have survived through this nervy derby encounter; and march on to meet Aston Villa in the Wembley show-piece.
