Enjoy The Silence

Bayer Leverkusen showed exactly why they are currently fifth in the Bundesliga and chasing a Champions League place; with a comprehensive 4-1 victory over struggling Werder Bremen at an empty Weser-Stadion.

They carried over their confident form from pre-pandemic days into this match; never missing a beat; with superstar Kai Havertz and midfield duo Kerem Demirbay & Charles Aranguiz in sparkling form. Witness young winger Moussa Diaby beating his man in the 28th minute to send in a delightful cross for Kai Havertz to head home brilliantly; whilst managing to fall over the outstretched defender and inuring himself slightly in the process.

The home team did manage to hit back though; with right-back Theodor Gebre Selassie flicking home audaciously from a corner to equalise. Things had hardly settled down when Leverkusen went ahead again; with Havertz this time heading home a salivicious free-kick from Demirbay.

Bremen have looked short of quality & know-how all season; and that was to be the case again here; with them missing gilt-edged opportunities to get back into it. And it was not a great surprise when Diaby again crossed from the left for Mitchell Weiser to head home; before Demirbay himself completed the rout after a through-ball from substitute Karim Bellarabi.
