I read the interesting story about ex-Manchester United trainee Laurence Wyke; and how he used to train with players like Scott McTominay & was even higher rated than Marcus Rashford; before hitting the heart-breaking news that he was not good enough and would be released by the club at the age of 16.
Instead of giving up though; Wyke decided to try a new path; heading out to the USA for a soccer scholarship and doing well at the college level. Not long after; he hit the headlines and was entered into the roster of Major League Soccer (MLS) soccer club Atlanta United; making his debut in front of 70,000 passionate fans at the brilliantly-named Mercedes-Benz Stadium; with his eager family watching on having flown over from England.
Having watched the MLS; I must say it is a brilliant league and as they do in America; everything is taken up a notch in terms of both excitement & commercialism. The huge stadiums; excited fans and star players are what makes the tournament such a rich draw; with sprinklers coming on when goals are scored & all sort of pyrotechnics.
