Giving No Quarter

The quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League have been drawn; and for me the tastiest tie of all would be the potential blockbuster between treble-chasing Bayern Munich and perennial favourites Barcelona.

Bayern have looked imperious in all quarters since the appointment of Hansi Flick; and have come back from the corona-break seemingly even stronger than before. They have already clinched the Bundesliga and German Cup; and are keen to achieve the second treble in the club's history; after their first in 2013. And while Barcelona are looking a bit shaky this season; notably in their internal fiasco and dropping off to Real Madrid in the La Liga chase; well they are still Barcelona with Lionel Messi and they simply cannot be written off.

There is still work to be done for both sides of course; with Bayern boasting a comfortable 3-0 away-leg lead over Chelsea; but the Londoners have been looking pretty strong since the corona-break and the German side are determined not to be over-complacent. For Barca; their tie is poised delicately 1-1 with Italian danger-side Napoli; with the home leg at Nou Camp to come...
