The Straits Times celebrates its 175th Anniversary today; and I've got to give it credit; I've always thought it is the best newspaper in the world. It's not an exaggeration to say that I look forward to reading it everyday after I wake up... it's such an integral part of my life that I will read it every day without fail; that's how good it is.
I think it's just the design and content of the paper that makes it stand out; it is so neat and structured; with the right blend of design; graphics and pictures; and the English used is nigh-on perfect; as compared to many other countries' newspapers. And it covers such a broad range of topics; everything tailored to the Singaporean lifestyle and perspective.
But I think probably the greatest strength of The Straits Times would be its sheer reliability and accuracy; such that my adage is that if it appears in The Straits Times; that is the only way you know it's true; because they would simply never get it wrong. In today's age of fake news and social media overload; that is simply priceless.
