Almost before you knew it; the new season is starting again; beginning with tonight's curtain-raiser between Premiership champions Liverpool; and FA Cup winners Arsenal.
As a fan; let's just say the Community Shield really means something. I remember back in 1995; when Everton were the FA Cup winners; and we beat Blackburn Rovers 1-0; it was a great feeling and a great joy that Everton picked up the first silverware of the season.
I think both teams tonight will use this as a good 'sighter' for the new season. It will be interesting to see how Liverpool start in defence of their Premier League title; and whether Arsenal can take things to new heights; after last season's decent showing under Mikel Arteta.
