Great White Hope

Leeds United were involved in a second consecutive 4-3 thriller at the start of the season; and if this is a portend of things to come; we're in for a hell of a ride...

Fortunately; this time they came away the victors; but it was not without a scare or two; as fellow promotees Fulham did well to come back from 1-4 down to finally lose 3-4. Overall though; I think Leeds just about deserved their victory. Their high-octane pressing was evident right form the start; and it sucked Fulham into making mistakes and giving away possession due to their own possession game.

Helder Costa produced a marvelous shot to give them an early lead; and though they carelessly gave away a penalty through Robin Koch again; they grabbed the lead back with a penalty of their own through the impressive Mateusz Klich. Their stellar possession game then threatened to run riot; with Patrick Bamford & Costa again giving them an imposing 4-1 lead.

The problem with Leeds is their all-or-nothing approach can lead to gaps at the back; and it came to the fore again when roving left-back Stuart Dallas was caught out of position; allowing Fulham substitute Bobby De Cordova-Reid to reduce the arrears with a sharp finish.

And those deficiencies were to surface again; when Kenny Tete's beautifully-flighted cross from the right was powered in in classic fashion by Aleksandar Mitrovic; who over-powered captain Liam Cooper on the leap.

In the end though; Leeds stayed true to their beliefs; and managed to control the game rather stably till the end. From their performance, quality & fitness in the first two games; this Leeds United team is here to stay.
