Pole Position

Almost never has a player stormed through an entire Grand Slam in such fashion: smashing through opponents; making it look almost easy; obliterating opponents almost at will.

And that's exactly what 19 year-old Pole Iga Swiatek did; dominating through the entire French Open without dropping a single set; not losing many games for heaven's sake; making it look easy at times. And we're not talking about a World No. 1 doing it; this is a player almost no-one has even heard of; a player ranked No. 54 in the world and unseeded of course; a teenager who even had trouble with her victory speech; for Christ's sake.

So it was a joy to watch Swiatek almost bamboozle through all opposition; making her impressive semi-final opponent Nadia Podoroska look almost silly at times; and beating heavily-favoured World No. 5 & reigning Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin relatively comfortably 6-4; 6-1.

Looking overwhelmed by it all; she made her way up to the family box to hug whoever she could find; then looked positively lost as she struggled to find the way back down to the court. It was the only time she looked lost these past 2 weeks.
