In The Torture Chambers

On this day 33 years ago; Tom Chambers elevated and threw down a dunk on Mark Jackson that sent the NBA into palpitations. The dunk was so inspiring; it was immortalized in the starting song feature for the NBA programme back in those days.

Now Tom Chambers is a 6'10" power forward; skillful & athletic; meaning he is a big problem for the NBA. But it was the ferocity of his dunk; and the fact that his knee was around at Mark Jackson's head; that led everyone in awe. Not surprisingly; it has remained in the consciousness till this day; and some basketball critics have called it "The Greatest Dunk Of All Time".

Chambers achieved big success with the Seattle Supersonics & Phoenix Suns; especially in 1993 when his Charles Barkley-led team reached all the way to the NBA Finals and were favorites; but were ultimately undone by Michael Jordan & the Chicago Bulls. But his greatest claim to fame could well be the 1987 All-Star Game; when a young & sprightly Chambers overwhelmed all opposition with a 34-point performance in front of his home crowd.
