Serie A champions Inter are trying to establish themselves at the top table; and for periods of this match; they did look equal to their more illustrious counterparts. Unfortunately they failed to take their chances when it really counted; notably Hakan Calhanoglu; who hit the bar in the first half after some neat control work. Ivan Perisic was also having a good outing; bombarding down the left and providing a difficult proposition for Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Sensing the match was slipping from his grasp; Juergen Klopp made a decisive triple-substitution; bringing on Jordan Henderson; Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino. Their leadership and know-how changed the course of this match back in Liverpool's favour; even more apparent when Firmino got that vital flick-on to score the first from a corner. Inter will still try their best; but they now face a difficult job in the second leg over at Anfield.
