Let There Be Light

Fresh from the success of Squid Game; the next Netflix drama to become a must-watch may arguably be the Taiwanese drama Light The Night. After opening to rave reviews; it has garnered strong attention throughout its three seasons; and has led to more and more people not just watching; but talking about it.

The plot is centered around a Japanese night-club in 1980s Taiwan; and revolves around a mysterious death to one of its key members that leads to viewers wondering who on Earth did it. One of the key strengths of the show is its time-shifting plot; which allows viewers to view the history and background of the protagonists; while keeping the main characters core throughout.

Another key element is the excellent acting of the characters; notably from 46 year-old Ruby Lin; who proves to be still hot despite her advanced age. In fact; her acting and presence is so solid; it can be said she actually carries the show throughout. Also worth mentioning is the charismatic Yo Yang; who plays a gritty detective intent on solving the case no matter what it takes.

There are also some excellent emotional scenes throughout the show; notably the one when Ruby Lin's son is forced to leave her and join her estranged husband. The dynamics and action of the plot also leave you with the feeling of can't wait to watch the next episode. All in all; this is an excellent drama that spreads the excitement across three seasons. It is no surprise that talk is already brewing if there may be a fourth.
