So it all came as a bit of a surprise when Akanji's clever ball found Silva in space; and his deflected cross was put in the net from a Rodrigo side-footer. It was also surprising how Josep Guardiola left out one of the best right-backs in the world Kyle Walker for the more defensive-minded Nathan Ake; but on this occasion it seemed to have worked. Inter did have chances after that; no more so when substitute Romelo Lukaku's free haeder went straight at Ederson; but City survived the final moments to gain a historic victory.

Blue Skies
Manchester City sealed their destiny with the inevitable conquest of the UEFA Champions League after a nervy 1-0 win over Inter Milan. Truth be told; they were not at their best; with their usual fluid possession game stymied by a surprising high Inter press. This was epitomized by Ederson's loose ball nearly being punished by Nicolo Barella; and then Bernardo Silva's pass left by Manuel Akanji; only for Lautaro Martinez to shoot straight at Ederson.
