Kiwi Shine

The Women's World Cup 2023 got off in the best way possible; as hosts New Zealand produced a stunning upset to beat heavy favourites Norway 1-0 in front of a maddening crowd at Eden Park.

Norway may have been a tad over-confident; looking at New Zealand's dodgy recent record; but quite soon; you could sense this could be something special as the hosts swarmed all over their more illustrious counterparts with a committed & dynamic performance.

And it was star striker Hannah Wilkinson; leading the line with aplomb; who scored the decisive gosl; as she latched on to a fine run & pass from Jacqui Hand to put the hosts in front right at the start of the second half.

For Norway; they need to take a long hard look at themselves. The 1995 champions were one of the tournament contenders; but after a rather disjointed performance that promised much but delivered little; they will need to up their game with a tough Switzerland also in their group.
