Cold Turkey

While Portugal were somewhat lucky to get away with a 2-1 win over the Czech Republic in their opening group game; this 3-0 demolition of a highly-rated Turkey was much more to their liking. While they enjoyed a lot of possession without much input in that first game; their cohesion and understanding was on show for all to see in this second.

Roberto Martinez is know for having a somewhat cavalier approach to attacking; and it seems to suit this Portugal team to a tee. Freed up to express themselves; they are flourishing with attacking intent; from Bernardo Silva down the right wing; to Bruno Fernandes in the middle; and rising star Rafael Leao on the left. Heck even Cristiano Ronaldo looks good lol. Defying any age inhibitions; he seems to be rolling back the years; and his charisma itself seems to be leading the line well.

Turkey had their soft belly exposed if you will. They did not seem to express themselves; and the sucker-punches dealt meant they always seemed to be playing with a rod up their spines. Hakan Calhanoglu and gang may not be out of it yet; but they will need to buckle up pretty quickly if they are to do anything in this tournament.
