There may have been butterflies in the stomach; but Florian Wirtz; star of unbeaten Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen; laid it all to rest with the opening goal after only 10 minutes. It was set up by the best right-back in the world Joshua Kimmich; who found Wirtz between the lines to slot in nicely; despite the best efforts of Angus Gunn; son of the legendary Norwich City goalkeeper Bryan Gunn.
Germany soon went two up; when the other superstar Jamal Musiala found his twinkling feet to rifle home after some more hesitant Scottish defending. The dust had hardly settled when Germany went three up before the break. Ryan Porteous of Championship club Watford did a horror challenge on Ilkay Gundogan after more mayhem in the Scottish box; leading to a VAR-inspired red card & Kai Havertz's superb penalty.
The Scots did show a little more fight in the second half; but they contrived to go four down after substitute Niclas Fullkrug showed why he is one of the in-form strikers in the world; barely needing five minutes before rifling in an unstoppable shot into the top corner. Scotland did pull one back; when Andrew Robertson's free kick was turned in unfortunately by Antonio Rudiger; but such was Germany's domination that they even scored a fifth in stoppage time; with another substitute Emre Can finding the corner after yet more Scottish slackness.
