Turning The Kristaps On

Kristaps Porzingis had the game of his life; as he returned from a 10-game absence to spark the favorites Boston Celtics to a dominating 107-89 victory over Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Boston were the clear favorites for this one; and from the get-go; they showed their immense willingness to seize control and win the championship. They seem especially eager to erase the nightmares of 2022; when they lost a heartfelt series to the Golden State Warriors. In this Game 1; they were on fire; and I don't mean 1 or 2 players; but the entire team. You could say they were 'in the zone'.

Fast-break three-pointers; spectacular blocks; raining jump-shots from all over; they were all par for the course. Especially Porzingis; who took advantage of his size advantage by shooting over smaller players and throwing a personal block party on the defensive end. One particularly memorable block could be the best in history; when he soared to take down a rim-rattling effort from Dallas swingman Josh Green.

For Dallas, they need to play much better; in particular Kyrie Irving; who had a dodgy 12 points and failed to support his fellow superstar Luka Doncic. They did show grit to come back from a 29-point deficit; whittling it down to 8 when Doncic hit a long three-pointer. However; it only seemed to rouse a wounded animal; as Boston came up with their own decisive run to seal this Game 1 at TD Garden.
