Not content with just parking the bus; Tamworth played with a sense of wonder & pride; engineering attacks of their own; with the greatest moment being centre-back Haydn Hollis doing a Maradona-cum-Cruyff pirouette to bamboozle the Spurs attackers. Playing with a composure belying their lowly status; their central defensive pairing of Hollis & Jordan Cullinane-Liburd were rock solid; with Sunderland loanee Ben Crompton also putting in a worthy shift at right-back.
Spurs played a strong team & were surely not expecting to struggle; but Timo Werner is a man low on confidence; and playing him as the centre-forward was basically not a smart idea. His day was exemplified by missing a glorious one-on-one chance; when his shot was saved by Lambs custodian Jas Singh. As each growing minute wore on; the burden on Spurs seemed to grow more & more; and the chance of a Tamworth upset grew likewise.
In the end though; it was the Spurs subs who turned the game. All of them made a difference: Son; Kulusevski; Solanke; Djed Spence & the impressive Lucas Bergvall; and that extra bit of star quality made the difference in the end; witness Kulusevski's raking left-footed grounder that is his trademark. It must be said that Tamworth did tire abit at the end after all that hard running; and bringing off their key players in Tom Tonks; Beck-Ray Enoru & Dan Creaney seemed to take the sails off them a little.
