38 years later; Coventry; languishing for so long in the lower reaches of English football; are back in prime-time. Leading the EFL Championship by a mile and dazzling all with their stunning brand of football; Frank Lampard's side have surprised all & sundry; as nobody saw it coming. Lampard; not having a very good reputation as a manager after failed stints at Chelsea & Everton; seems to have finally found the winning formula.
But not on this night. Facing third-placed Ipswich in a highly-expected top of the table clash; Coventry started off badly; and it stayed that way throughout. Ipswich came with a relentless style of passing football; and in all apsects of the game; they were on top. After a rather dominant first half from the Tractor Boys; you would expect Coventry to raise their game in the second; but it was more of the same.
At the end of the day; strikes from the impressive Jack Clarke and substitute Wes Burns condemned Coventry to a demoralizing home defeat. It ended their unbeaten record at home this season; and was even more impressive considering the Sky Blues had won their last 8 consecutive on home turf. Ed Sheeran may not have been around; but on this night; Ipswich were damn near Perfect.
