Wednesday Blues

Sheffield Wednesday are a far cry from their 80s pomp. The days of David Hirst, Chris Waddle & John Sheridan are long gone; and these days; the club are stuck at the bottom of the EFL Championship; with administration; deducted points and failed performances the order of the day.

Having said that; the current team do post some luminaries such as former Leeds captain Liam Cooper; Manchester United loanee Harry Amass and Bailey Cadamarteri; son of the former Everton legend Danny Cadamarteri. They faced a Derby County side that is looking more at the bright side of things; with a potential Playoffs place up for grabs. They too have a decent side of their own; with much-coveted striker Ben Brereton-Diaz; midfielder Bobby Clark (son of Newcastle legend Lee Clark) and Rhian Brewster; the former Liverpool hotshot.

There is a reason why Wednesday are down in the dumps; as too often their passes failed to find the intended target and there was a general lack of cohesion & motivation in the side. Derby on the other hand; played like a team hungry for the Playoffs; and it was US international Patrick Agyemang who saw off the challenge of Dominic Iorfa to put Derby ahead midway through the first half.

Further goals from Liam Thompson & Agyemang again put paid to any Wednesday challenge; with the latter a culmination of triple mistakes from substitute Nathaniel Chalobah, Sean Fusire's weak body-check and Max Lowe's hopeless flicked clearance. The home team were still too reliant on 36 year-old legend Barry Bannan; and were guilty of too much slack passing out of defence; notably from Cooper.
