Wrexham; ninth in the Championship & going for their 4th straight promotion; are a more than decent outfit; and went up 2-0 and then 3-1 with goals from Liberator Cacace & Ollie Rathbone; and after Igor Jesus had pulled one back for Forest; Dom Hyam looked to have sealed it with a bullet header to restore their two-goal advantage. But substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi showed his quality; scoring two goals to haul Forest level and take the tie to extra time.
Forest looked the likelier in extra-time as their Premier League quality started to shine through; with Omari Hutchinson & Neco Williams going close for the visitors. The home side held on though and ultimately won the penalty shootout; with goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo the hero with 2 vital saves. To make the fairytale complete; amongst the penalty scorers for Wrexham were 36 year-old Jay Rodriguez; the former England international; and Josh Windass; son of the Hull City legend Dean Windass.
