I think the recent furore about teachers committing non-sensical crimes is getting pretty ridiculous. Let's see... you've got teachers molesting students, peeping in toilets, principals getting into all kinds of trouble, a professor getting seduced into giving better grades, and a female teacher having sex with a young male student?!?! What the fish is happening lah??!!
All this was unheard of five years ago. Is the pressure and stress of society getting too much now? So that even teachers/principals/professors are going nuts and breaking the law? If these so-called righteous and educated people are doing it, does the rest of society have a chance? Does Joey Barton still have a freakin' chance?
So Singapore, that very 'peaceful' society, has taken the somewhat 'strange' step of having to have some sort of 'Code of Conduct' for their teachers to follow: a kind of ethical and moral guidelines for teachers to abide by. Isn't it a travestical contradiction by itself? A 'Code of Conduct' for teachers to follow?? Heck, aren't these people supposed to be the ones WRITING the 'Code of Conduct'? It would be funny if it wasn't so tragic. Are we the only country who needs this?
So one teacher raised up to say that this 'Code of Conduct' thing is childish and quite ridiculous and why should teachers have to be subject to this kind of 'demeaning' thing. Well, because obviously teachers are not behaving themselves! It has come to the stage that teachers have to be taught how to behave! Otherwise, why would anyone want to waste their time designing and conducting this type of programme for them?
