Heat Get Hot

Manchester United gained substantial revenge over Wigan for last season's demise-causing 1-0 defeat with an outstanding 4-0 win. Without Wayne Rooney, strikers Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez starred with two goals apiece, as the league leaders' pace and guile proved too much for Roberto Martinez's side. The pick of the goals was United's second and van Persie's first, with the Dutch sensation faking a left-foot shot before steering a curler into the side netting with his supposedly-weaker right foot.

Earlier yesterday, I watched the Miami Heat edge past the Orlando Magic 112-110 after overtime in a New Year's Day thriller. LeBron James proved the star by lifting his team to victory, after Orlando had put in a sterling performance to nearly upset the reigning champions. Magic centre Nikola Vucevic had a magnificent game, setting career highs in rebounds (29) and points (20), while hitting some key shots along the way. Arron Afflalo and J.J. Redick also played big for the home team, who were without two of their key players Jameer Nelson and Glen Davis. However, the Heat got it going at the right time, with James and Dwayne Wade scoring all 13 of their points in overtime to seal a close victory.
