I must say 'The Last Tycoon' is a pretty decent show. Chow Yun Fatt shows his mettle again as the main star, and again you get the feeling that no-one else would be able to carry off his role like he can. He still has that overpowering aura about him, that inimitable style and physical stature that defines his persona. But if you're looking to the future, I would say China star Huang Xiaoming is a good start. He plays the young Chow Yun Fatt in this movie, and comes across with smouldering good looks and decent emotional chops.
This movie moves well in terms of plot and suspense, and I would encourage everyone to go watch it. The action sequences are pretty good, with nice gun-fights and knife-slashes to thrill the action buff in you. Kudos also go out to reliable character actor Francis Ng, who yet again manages to play a contemptible bad guy to liven up proceedings. Certain sentimental scenes are also enhanced with the 'flashback' method of going back into past years in the movie to re-screen certain emotion-filled scenes. Joyce Feng, playing the young lover of Chow, stands out for me with her sizzling looks.
