Golden Oldie

In a glamorous international friendly between England and Brazil, it was settled by an old hand who has done and seen it all... Frank Lampard of Chelsea. It was a fabulous game, with familiar faces all around the park. Many of the Brazilians on show have tatsed life in the BPL before, so it felt like an old reunion of sorts.

There was Chelsea trio David Luiz, Ramires and Oscar there, the rejuvenated Ronaldinho (whom I thought would never don a Brazil jersey ever again), there was veteran Luis Fabiano, Barcelona right-back Daniel Alves, QPR custodian Julio Cesar (who would have ever thought a QPR 'keeper would be Brazil's No. 1) and superstar Neymar. There were also talented strikers Fred and the incredible Hulk on the Brazil bench.

After Ronaldinho marked his comeback with a missed penalty, Wayne Rooney proceeded to give England the lead in the 26th minute. Arsenal starlet Theo Walcott showed his pace and promise to become an integral part of the England set-up, while Jack Wilshere payed an influential part in a Man-of-the-Match performance.

Fred restored parity for Brazil three minutes after half-time, but it was left to Lampard to score the winner for the home side on the hour mark. Rooney was the creator and the 34-year-old Lampard finished off sensationally for his 27th England goal. Chelsea may now be having second thoughts about wanting to keep him, as on the evidence of his latest performance, there is no oldie shining as brightly as him right now.
