Today is Valentine's Day 2013. Me and my dearest girlfriend Clarins celebrated by taking the whole day off (and tomorrow) and going for a lovely lunch at The Clan Restaurant. Even though it was raining cats & dogs, it was nice and warm in the restaurant as we tucked into our six-course meal.
It started with the 'Chef's Starter', followed by the 'Cold Dish', of which was Beef Carpaccio for her and escargot for me. Next on the list was the 'Side Dish', of which was Deep Fried Foie Gras for her and King Alaskan Crab for me, then the soup of Ginseng Chicken Consomme for her and Crab Bisque (served in a glass) for me. I must say that even though it was the second time I had that, it still felt kinda weird drinking up warm soup from a glass instead of scooping it up with a spoon from a bowl. The 'Main Course' was next, with Duck Confit for her and some lovely 48-Degree Salmon for me. The Salmon for me was the highlight of the lunch, so tender and tasty it was just magnificent. Last up was the dessert, with both of us going for chocolate relations; Chocolate Cake for her and Chocolate Lava for me.
After that, we drove down to Orchard Road and watched the movie 'The Grandmaster' at Shaw Lido (our favourite cinema at the moment). The show was decent, going more for storyline and holistic history rather than action sequences. The plot was rather convulted and complicated, as is expected from a Wong Kar Wai-directed offering. Tony Leung Chiu Wai, while no doubt a good actor, I felt he did not hit the heights in this show. To me, the show and his acting is not as good as the previous Donnie Yen-inspired vehicles of the Ip Man series. Donnie Yen, in my opinion, is the most charismatic actor in the WORLD, oozing charisma and with eyes that pierce and explode with inspiration and fortitude.
We ended the night by having a Mos Burger meal at my home, but not before eagerly opening our Valentine's Day presents. Mine was a lovely, high-class looking Massimo Dutti white long-sleeved shirt, and hers was a latest, state-of-the-art Issey Miyake perfume. Later, we are gonna watch CSI drama together; both of us are big fans of it, whether the LA, NY or Miami versions. It's the intrigue, suspense and originality of the series that keeps us thrilled.
