To Cop It Off....

I found the interview in today's Sunday Times with our top cop pretty interesting. What is heartening to know is that, despite being one of the safest countries in the world today, our police force is not resting on its laurels and is still endeavouring to make our country even safer.

For example, the police have started a recent initiative to embed police officers within local communities, thus increasing the sense of ownership felt by ordinary residents and keeping police firmly in tune with ground happenings in the community. This should only be a win-win situation, in addition to providing the all-important deterrence factor for would-be criminals.

Also heartening is the fact that the top cop is looking into the area of traffic crime as well, which has been under-reported as of now, in my opinion. Elements such as not signalling, not giving way and overall driver rudeness are issues long complained of by Singaporeans, and I think it's the right step for the police to look into addressing this for the benefit of the country as a whole.
