I was feeling quite free the other day, so I turned to YouTube and started exploring some of the music videos of songs that I like, but had never quite had the time to see. It was a real fun afternoon as I indulged in some really sensational videos.
One that really comes to mind is Evanescence's 'Going Under'. I did download the song to my iPod but all along I thought it was just an average, run-of-the-mill song. The video, though, proves otherwise! The creativity and production is fantastic. Filled with images of strange people and rip-roarin' concert scenes, the video is freakin' cool! Probably the coolest video I've ever seen in my life. I would put it at No. 3 in my all-time fav videos list, behind the un-usurpable 'Take On Me' by a-ha and Bon Jovi's 'It's My Life'.
That's not all I found, though. I also watched Poison's 'Life Goes On' (one of my favourite songs) and Warrant's 'I Saw Red', two of the 80s' most famous power-rock ballads. Was certainly interesting seeing how cool rock bands portray themselves through videos back in the 80s, with two charismatic lead singers in Bret Michaels and Jani Lane respectively.
I also watched Duran Duran's 'The Reflex' and 'Union of the Snake' which was not bad, but I don't quite know what to say about their 'Wild Boys' video. Suffice to say that it's really, really weird, with strange creatures, a strange plot-line and strange structures which no-one seems to understand. There is even an extended version of it which is like double the madness. It's totally bizarre whether in that, this or any generation. You've almost got to see it to believe it. Hurts' 'Stay' though is pretty nice, a video that matches up appropriately with the song.
