Today was our first My Paper Executive 2013 Catwalk Class! It was held at an ambienic setting at The School of Dancesport at Automobile Megamart at Ubi; an ideal, big room with ample walking area and tons of mirrors to preen in.
I must say, this being my first-ever ‘Catwalk Class’, it was quite an eye-opener and enriching experience for me. I’ve always wondered how models move around the stage so cleanly and effortlessly and I’m pleased to say that after today’s session, the 16 of us finalists can certainly do so too!
I would say it is not as difficult as expected and a lot of it relies on your habitual technique; meaning, it should come as ‘second-nature’ to you so you don’t have to deliberately co-erce it out. Confidence and a good posture are obviously important to the cause, and it was nice to learn the 15 ‘model poses’ that you have in your arsenal basically anytime you need it.
I particularly enjoyed the times when all 16 of us did the walk-through rehearsal for our Finals appearance, with the disco music blaring and all of us in full swing. There’s something about the music that brings a thrill to the air and a bounce to our step. I also thought the ‘slow-motion’ walk-and-pose sequence for the elimination phase was pretty unique and cool; which we rehearsed for the Finals. It will also be the first time this particular phase is practised in the Finals.
It’s certainly nice to know how to stand, walk and pose with style and panache. Not just for a competition, but for life in general. Kudos to the SPH/My Paper team for organising this!!
