I thoroughly enjoyed Everton’s 2-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers (QPR) tonight in the Barclays Premier League (BPL). It was the first Everton match in a long time, that you could say they were comfortable in victory and deserved the win. In other words, it was not nail-biting, heart-attack kind of stuff.
QPR, second-from-bottom in the table and looking like relegation candidates, unfortunately seemed to play like it; and though they had patches in the game where they looked useful and worthy of a goal, in overall parlance, they just could not keep up with the home mastery. French international Loic Remy looks a good signing though, and had decent chances in each of the halves.
Overall though, Everton continued their recent fine form. They are now just one Gylfi Sigurdsson rebound put-away away from making it 5 wins in 5 Premiership games; and that, my friends, is Championship-winning form, especially at this stage of the season. It’s like their customary late-season surge has come really late this time.
Darron Gibson, their pass-maestro in the centre of the park and Man-of-the-Match for me, opened the scoring with an unerring shot that flew into the net off a deflection from Clint Hill. Their second came early in the second half from Victor Anichebe, who through the years has now risen from debatable substitute to first-choice striker at Goodison. His confidence is soaring right now, and his strength and mobility are causing problems to Premiership defences across the country. Just reward for his years of hard work and loyalty to the Everton cause, and I’m really happy to see him get the recognition and plaudits that his play fully deserves.
Next up on Wed morning: Everton take on fellow-European chasers Arsenal at the Emirates…. another spell-binding match in store…. I can’t wait…..
