The Belgians Are Coming

So the World Cup 2014 party is seriously getting underway. Quite a few of the qualification places have already been decided, with the draw for the delicious playoffs in the horizon. You know how big this event is getting when Presidents of countries are tweeting about it all over the place. Yes, those grand guys are tweeting the moment their countries qualify, broadcasting celebratory messages on social media seen the world over.

Meanwhile, big parties are taking place all over the place, revelry is in full swing, cars are honking their horns in celebration, everyone is letting go and madness is taking over..... Big shout-out to Bosnia-Herzegovina who have qualified for the World Cup Finals for the first time in their history. Illuminated by their Manchester City superstar Edin Dzeko, they have stunned the world by excelling in their qualification group and finishing tops, all the while boasting an impressive goals tally and a resolute defence. This small country, still torn apart internally by ethnic strife and civil war, has something for the whole nation to scream about.... and this is another example of how sport unites the whole nation together..... Beautiful.

But all eyes now must be on Belgium. Like the proverbial Phoenix in the ashes, they have risen like a dynamite and filled the soccer world with intense trepidation. Even hosts Brazil must be quaking in their boots. How can you not be worried about a team like Belgium? Are they the current favourites for the World Cup? In my mind, they are. They are like a BPL All-Stars team, filled with strength, skill and passion. Let's roll it down while we're at it.... From champions Man Utd, they've got midfield enforcer Marouane Fellaini & the dazzling Adnan Januzaj. Man City, captain and defensive superman Vincent Kompany. Chelsea, wing whizzkid Eden Hazard - a potential international match-winner if ever there was one; and promising prospect Kevin De Bruyne. Arsenal, former club skipper & Belgian vice-captain Thomas Vermaelen (who can't get into that table-topping Arsenal team at the minute). Tottenham have a bevy of them - stylish defender Jan Vertonghen, impressive midfield man Mousa Dembele and young winger Nacer Chadli. Liverpool have 'keeper Simon Mignolet in their ranks. For Everton, they've got 2 big players for them - sprightly winger Kevin Mirallas and the superstar of the moment, Romelu Lukaku. And Aston Villa have got one of the best Premiership strikers I have EVER seen: powerhouse Christian Benteke. Whew, I'm almost out of breath. I've just named you no less than 13 Belgian superstars.... all from the BPL. I've actually always wanted to list down all the top Belgian players, and now finally I've done it. Can't wait to see them in action at World Cup 2014.
