This was the best Manchester United performance this season. Rather consequentially; it was also Andreas Pereira's best performance in a Manchester United shirt. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer may be under fire from all corners this season; but he got his tactical blueprint spot-on with this one. By playing a 3-4-1-2; he unleashed Pereira in his best central position; and also out-numbered Liverpool's three-man midfield; allowing his wing-backs to negate Liverpool's own dangerous wing-backs going forward.
Having said that, Solksjaer's opposite number Jurgen Klopp also did a masterstroke; changing formation to a 4-4-2 in the second half to transform the game around. Gaining back territorial integrity in midfield; this also allowed the full-backs to deliver in the dangerous crosses they are renowned for; with one from Andrew Robertson deservedly providing the equaliser from substitute Adam Lallana. His three substitutions were also spot-on; with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain; Lallana and Naby Keita all proving instrumental to proceedings in the second half.
If the match had gone on for another 15 minutes; one would have sensed Liverpool could have got the winner; such was the momentum and possession they were building on. In the end; it was probably a fair point for both sides; as Man United displayed a powerful performance with drive and invention that their fans had desperately been looking for.
