I watched Austrian sensation Dominic Thiem come up big in the ATP 500 China Open; winning two tough matches in a row; the semi-final against Russian hard-hitter Karen Khachanov; and then the final against Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas...
Now both were extremely tough matches... and I must say that in both; Thiem was not favoured to win; losing both first sets and struggling to come to terms with his opponents' seemingly un-flinching firepower.
And in both... Thiem showed both perseverance and technical skill... clawing his way back with a steely demeanour to somehow clinch the title as the top seed. There were fireworks in both; both were lung-bursting matches... hard-hitting rallies that swung from side-to-side; with both men eliciting rancorous squeals and more than a violent self-styled rant...
At the end of the day, it was the 26-year-old who stood tall; from precocious teenager... he has now come of age to be a bona-fide world-beater ranked No. 5 in the world... could a Grand Slam be next?
