Think the Singapore football team is moving in the right direction... for too many years, we've been adopting a negative, defeatist, almost-premonitionally bad demeanour... and the results have been surprise, surprise... exactly that...
Well, I think Japanese coach Tatsuma Yoshida is doing the right thing... instilling confidence in the team, adopting a modern possession-cum-pressing style of football... and encouraging the team to attack and 'play-as-equals'; instead of defending deep against stronger teams and 'hoping for the best'...
It's all very refreshing... and things appear to be on the right track... especially in the opening two World Cup 2020 qualifiers when Singapore beat Yemen & drew with Palestine to sit rather surreally on top of the group... even though they recently lost 3-0 to Saudi Arabia & 3-1 to Uzbekistan; let's not forget these are two Asian powerhouses streets ahead of us at the moment... and the fact we were not totally out-classed is a good sign in itself...
I must say this is almost a Golden Generation of Singaporean footballers... with loads of proper talent and many overseas-based stars who have gained good exposure and clout... the likes of the promising Fandi brothers (with a third one to come); the brilliant Faris Ramli; inspirational skipper Hariss Harun; and talented mainstays like Shakir Hamzah and Shahdan Sulaiman... this could be the time for Singapore to rise from the ashes; improve on our dismal football ranking and make Singapore football great again!
