In what seems like a movie script come true, Duncan Ferguson could; in possibly his final game as manager; take Everton through to the Carabao Cup semi-finals and a step closer to their first trophy since their FA Cup win in 1995; of which he was a crucial part of.
We all remember the heady days as he came on as a substitute (with Daniel Amokachi) in the latter stages of that famous 1-0 victory over mighty Manchester United at Wembley. There were tears in my eyes as Dave Watson punched the air in delight at that 'impossible' victory. And we all remember the scenes of a young, fresh-faced Ferguson with that blue-nose celebrating riotously at Wembley.
That Manchester United team seemed odds-on favourites to win; with Peter Schmeichel, Paul Ince and Ryan Giggs amongst the luminaries in their side. It looked like it was no contest; and that Everton victory against all the odds; will live in history as one of the most unbelievable FA Cup upsets of all-time. The Dogs of War of Barry Horne and Joe Parkinson - that tackled anything that moved - will always be remembered.
A big night tonight, as Everton take on the season's surprise package Leicester City at Goodison Park in what should be a barn-stormer. The ante is upped even more when you consider Leicester's last-ditch 2-1 victory over the same opponents just weeks ago; when substitute Kelechi Iheanacho came off the bench to steer his team to victory in a dramatic, VAR-inspired way. We can't wait for tonight.
