The newest Jumanji: The Next Level literally takes things to the next level: with changing avatars, new characters dropped mid-screen and an ever-increasing array of villains/hazards thrown into the mix. However, it is a far cry from the 1995 original starring Robin Williams; when the very concept was so refreshing and every scene seemed like a new universe come true.
As such, following on to the 2017 sequel and now this one; the film I feel is taking on a downward trajectory; with the movie trying too hard to refresh itself through one-dimensional characters, bad jokes and just an overall plot and narrative that seems too directed for kids.
With stellar characters such as Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, motor-mouth Kevin Hart, comedian Jack Black and even Danny Glover and Danny DeVito thrown in for this one; you just feel the movie could have been so much more. A wasted opportunity; you might say. This is certainly one sequel that is on a downward trend.
