The three 'forgotten' players of Chelsea came up big in this one; with Marcos Alonso & Olivier Giroud coming up with splendid goals and Ross Barkley putting in an effervescent performance behind the front-man; as Chelsea came up tops with a 2-1 home win over perennial London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Frank Lampard came up big against his former manager Jose Mourinho; with his 3-4-2-1 formation proving brilliant against Spurs' 5-4-1 set-up. Mason Mount & Barkley were able to find space between the lines of Spurs' short-changed midfield & five-man defence; and they used it to great effect; prompting & probing all afternoon in the midst of a powerfully-committed performance by the Champions League-chasing Blues.
Tottenham's formation was just too negative throughout; and Mourinho stubbornly maintained a five-man backline even when they were 2-0 down and the game obviously slipping away. His pragmatic nature added further downside to a tired-looking Spurs; as they struggled to create any chances and make in-roads against a confident, clamouring Chelsea side.
