With A Little Help From My Friend...

Just finished reading the autobiography of John Stockton and must say it is about as right fit as the man himself: thoughtful; precise and ultimately a bit boring lol. Frankly, you could have expected it from looking at the man - serious, quiet, logical... and unfortunately the book turned out to be exactly that...

One thing good is the professionalism of the tome; just like the man; you can hardly find a wrong word or grammar mistake; and you do get a sense of just how this famous point guard became so good; by being fitter; more hardworking and putting in more hours than everyone else.

There are certain good moments; like his 'interesting' rivalry with Detroit Pistons' legend Isiah Thomas... but there are too many down-points... such as how he exudes on winning seasons but disappointingly talks very little about disappointing losing campaigns; especially the never-to-be-forgotten seasons of 1997-98 where the powerful Utah Jazz team lost memorably in stunning finals to the unbeatable Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. There just could have been so much more there that he didn't express... or maybe the pain and heartbreak was just too much of it all; as was how it seemed... he also delves too little on his wondrous relationship with Karl Malone; when surely this could be one of the major topics; seeing how this duo is perhaps the most memorable and powerful ever in the NBA...
