Chelsea pulverised their season with a standout performance against Liverpool; with long-range strikes from Willian and Ross Barkley sealing a 2-0 win over the runaway Premier League leaders. Credit goes to young Billy Gilmour; who was superb in midfield; putting in some nasty tackles, comfortable in possession and even directing traffic with his more-senior colleagues. Barkley put up another fine performance; capped by a stunning drive and shot midway through the second half to put his team in a commanding 2-0 lead. Together with Marcos Alonso and Olivier Giroud, the trio of 'forgotten men' are now proving their worth big-time to Frank Lampard; proving that they have not lost any of their past bluster. Credit also to Spanish star Pedro; who put in a superb performance on the Chelsea left; harrying and tackling his way to inspiration down that left flank; he was also influential in both Chelsea goals.
For Liverpool, this dodgy performance resulted in a third defeat in in four games; and their previously impregnable season is suddenly in danger of going into a tail-spin. Perhaps stung by their shocking 3-0 reverse at Watford; they were slightly cagey and hesitant in possession; a shadow of their former imperial selves; and the previous defensive solidity that had marked their greatness seems in danger of crumbling. Their rather strange formation of 4-3-1-2 did not help matters too; with Takumi Minamino playing the role of The Invisible Man; and things were made worse by Sadio Mane playing on the right wing instead of his preferred left.
